What is TCO? This often overused corporate buzzword, but it DOES have relevancy when it comes to tanning beds. It stands for "Total Cost of Ownership". When you are looking to buy a home or commercial tanning bed, it is the true cost of obtaining it. It is the "real" cost, not just the listed price. If you want the best deal on any product, you MUST consider the TCO of the product or be prepared to pay too much. The TCO includes all expenses necessary in order to USE the product, not just buy it. With tanning beds, here is how to calculate the TCO
These are ALL necessary expenses to use the tanning bed the first time. Obviously, 220 tanning beds cost significantly more to install because you have to have an electrician install a 220V circuit (about $150) and a buck boost transformer (another $150). If you install most 220V beds without this transformer, you will void your warranty and risk damaging the tanning bed. This is because most 220V systems use European electronics, and you need the buckbooster to transform the electricity from US standards (240-245v) to European standards (220-230v). Any tanning bed that uses European electronics is going to cost you an average of $300 at installation. Shipping is obvious, you have to get it to you. The cost of shipping will vary with manufacturer and where you live. You have to just compare that cost from the different vendors for yourself. Always get the company to ship to you "Freight Prepaid" and NEVER EVER "Freight Collect". If you pay Collect, you become the shipper and will have to file the paperwork if the item is damaged in transit. Ongoing expense is the cost of maintenance, electricity and upkeep. This varies from bed to bed according to the type of electronics used. This included replacing lamps. Other costs: This would be about the same for any tanning bed, and it depends upon the installation. This is mainly for salons, where they have to build special walls for a tanning room and extra air conditioning. For most home owners, this isn't much of an issue. Often, we hear people ask why SunMaster tanning beds cost more, when in reality, they have a lower TCO. SunMaster home systems do not require a 220V connection or buck boost transformer, saving you $300 at install. SunMaster beds use up to half the electricity of European style systems, saving you each year. They do not have "lamp starters" or offboard capacitors, so the maintenance is less than half of a European system. The fact is, there is no other system that has a better TCO or lower maintenance than SunMaster. But don't take our word for it, compare the TCO with anyone else's tanning bed and see. |
