The face tanning systems used in SunMaster tanning beds are very different than traditional high pressure lamps.  SunMaster tanning beds utilize Dual Sun™ technology from Light Sources to give better results, at a lower price.

The Dual Sun lamp is much like a regular lamp on the outside, but inside it uses two different phosphors that filter the light differently in each section.   The blue section is a 5% UVB lamp, but the pink area is a whopping 6.5% UVB for enhanced tanning in the face area.  The Dual Sun comes in two configurations:   Face only, which has 18" of this pink phosphor, and the Dual Sun XL which extends this pink area over half the lamp.  This XL is used in our tanning beds that feature "Side and Arm" tanning.

Both types of Dual Sun lamps are designed as 100 watt HO lamps, and do not require any special ballast different than that of a normal tanning lamp.  The technology is INSIDE the lamp, not in the electronics.

Why is this better than traditional 400 watt facial lamps?  Several reasons, but the most important feature is that the Dual Sun technology does not require a 220v connection or special electronics.  This allows you to use the facial system in tanning beds that are designed to run at 120V household current, such as the SunMaster 16 and 24 lamp beds.  This is part of how SunMaster is the only 24 lamp bed with face tanning that can plug into the wall.

Another important reason is heat.  These lamps produce about the same amount of heat as any normal tanning lamp.  Most traditional facials are rated at 400 watts each, and produce extraordinary amounts of heat.  This makes them extremely uncomfortable to many people.

Less parts is always good, and traditional facials are much more complicated, and more likely to fail.   They have the 400 watt lamp, the ballast, the starter, the wiring, the "bucket" that houses the lamp, the purple UVC filter (they produce UVC, which is dangerous, so you must filter it out) plus the acrylic on the tanning bed is usually custom cut to fit the housing of the bucket.   This cutting of the acrylic makes it more likely to crack later on.  Dual Sun technology doesn't require any of this because the technology is inside the lamp.

Dual Sun technology is considerably less expensive.  While a traditional facial adds about $400 per facial to the price of a tanning bed, a Dual Sun face system will cost about $100.  Also, since all traditional facials require 220v, you don't have the option of a 120V tanning bed, so you end up paying for a 220v circuit and a buckboost transformer that you wouldn't need on a Dual Sun bed.  A tanning bed with a single traditional facial can cost up to $600 more than a tanning bed with a Dual Sun system, and yet the traditional system will not perform as well.

This is why SunMaster uses the Dual Sun technology exclusively for facial systems.  Being the technology leader in indoor tanning, would you expect any less?
